People, it’s neither 5th Gear NOR Top Gear! It’s one of Clarkson’s videos and this particular “race” was rigged from the start.
I believe that Clarkson even admitted as much in his newspaper column; he said that he did it to wind his biker mates up!
at the end the bike isnt even accelerating hard if he put the power down the bike had enough distance to tka eover

just look at nature,the fastest animals have 4 legs not 2,bikes have a higher ptw ratio,if you had an equal ptw ratio it would be an F1 vs a R1 road bike and we all know what would happen with that one eh
The modern F1 cars have almost 1500BHP per Ton, the road going R1 has 950 BHP per Ton. The F1 car still wins yes, but there is less skill involved. traction controle, braking assist, anti stall, computer assisted clutch and gearing, quick shifters…(well bikes have them too) just to name a few of the cracking invetions in F1 that take more and more control from the driver. and lets see an F1 car beat a bike on Brans Hatch
that was a set-up. The R1 backed off. And Clarkson knows that bikes are better, that why he has to insult us bikers. he feels threatened by them or something…At least the new 5th gear team make it fair. He seems to just say “bikes are gay because they are and thats that?!” well Mr Clarkson i put it to you that a Porsche 911 turbo driven by a middle age fat bald man who only bought it to impress the hookers he frequently picks up is far more sad then an R1 at full tilt!

the bike still only has 1 wheel which to get the power down the car has 2 or in this case 4 thats why drag cars are quicker than drag bike etc.the power to weight of this porsche is way down on the bike in this case but the car still beats it
For sure, I accept that 4 wheels is a more efficient way to corner and brake. But getting the power down that much better I’m not too sure about. I mean when the bike opens up, the way the swing-arm is designed it puts a lot of the weight (bike and rider) on the back wheel, this stops it spinning up. (in the dry at least) the thing is, cars often have such massive BHP and Torque that even though the car is heavier it still spins up. look at the R1’s 0 - 62 time it can get the power down!
the R1 0-62 is very quick but its only because of the p.t.w ratio,if the porsche had the same ptw then with the 4 wheel drive it would leave the bike,but it would probably have to have 1500 bhp lol
Yeah, try getting the cost the same then, the F1 costs about 100 times more than the R1. Just wouldn’t do that in the real world.
Less Skill!? You are extremely ignorant for that statement. Comparing the skills needed for a race car, esp F1, to those needed for a road bike is like comparing apples to celery. Please do not talk as though you know anything about F1.
And as far as Brands Hatch goes, I can not find record of a motorcycle beating Nigel Mansell’s 1:09.593 done in a Williams-Honda for the GP track. Also I can not find any record of a motorcycle beating Scott Mansell’s 38.032 also done in a F1 car for the indy layout. If you can find any records proving me wrong, please enlighten me as my limited of Brands Hatch is limited.
These days there is so much “helping” F1 drivers…in the old days it was car/driver. That day is gone.
As for the lap times, I was under the impression from someone who knows Brands pretty well (don’t want to name drop) but on his word I was told a modern F1 car can’t race there because they would likely bottom out in one section causing damage.
Anyhow even if I was arguing a stupid point I would still continue because Clarkson really pissed me off slagging off bikes all the time.

Holy crap, stop comparing F1 to the R1. Please at least compare F1 to Moto GP.
I can understand why ur not crazy about all the technology introduced into F1, but all forms of racing, motorcycle and automobile, are constantly updating the technology with the strict intention of improving lap time, nothing else. Please excuse the run on scentence.
Yeah the Moto GP bikes would be a better comparison for obvious reasons. The truth is; I’m just so pissed off with Clarkson’s constant slurring of bikes and bikers I may have said a few things in anger that made me appear naieve and short sighted and now I’m trying to dig upwards. I have been riding bikes years, and the first R1 I got was a ‘99 model. It blew my mind. Then people like Clarkson constantly marr Yamaha’s good work I don’t know any production cars that get 170BHP out of a 1L engine.
Anyway I get the feeling we are flogging a dead horse.
In conclusion:
Clarkson - Tit
Bikes - Fast and fun
F1 - Faster (still got to stick a boot in about the technology though)
In-fact Clarkson says he is a journo and knows it all, Hammond and May, Butler-Henderson…almost all of the motoring journo’s have bikes…I think Tiff and Jason Plato may have had bikes as well…not sure.
Anyway I’m just babbling now. I’ll try thinking before I speak in future though, certainly…lol
F1 - M1…I would love to see Rossi try his hand in F1 as Ferrari offered him a spot. That offer would have expired by now, but to do the transfer from Moto GP to F1…wow, even if he didn’t win a race just to be able to compete in the rival sport would be amazing. I hear that he was into rally driving as well?
fuck clarkson talking shit about bikes. the sad truth is that he is a bitch when it comes to bikes. he feels safer in a cage he wont even try to ride a bike because hes a bitch.
I dislike Jeremy Clarkson and I ride bikes, however, I disagree with what you said.
Ho rode a ducati (can’t remember what, possibly 916) round a race track.
He also rode a small bike in vietnam on top gear.
He admitted he doesn’t ride is because his beer gut would look ridiculous in a leather suit and that he’s happy wuth cars.
The whole biker pisstaking thing is a joke, he’s not serious. The other two TG presenters ride bikes so it’s just joking. similar to calling May “captainslow”.
